December 2014 Playlist

December 2014 Playlist
It's time for me to present you the last playlist of the year. Are you ready to see and hear the biggest playlist on Laura Neuzeth history? I really hope you are! I've compiled some of my favorite tracks of the year to make my "Best of 2014" playlist. Also since I skipped the November playlist I decided to include 20 songs in this playlist. There's a bit of everything in this playlist, from underrated female pop singers to rock legends. You might recognize some of the songs from previous playlists but that just goes to show how much I enjoyed those songs throughout the year. I'm also super interested in knowing what your favorite songs of the year were, so please feel free to share your top songs and playlists in the comments section.

October 2014 Playlist

October 2014 Playlist
This month's playlist is going to be unlike any other playlist so far. This will be the very first playlist that has very few words, or in other hand it's entirely composed of instrumentals. Sometimes songs don't need any words to convey emotions or story. Then there are other times that you just want to find the perfect soundtrack to your own movie- don't pretend like you've never imagined yourself as the star of your own movie when you listen to music. Whether you just want to relax or let your imagination go wild, this is the playlist for you.

September 2014 Playlist

September 2014 Playlist
While I'm not in school anymore, part of me still thinks of September as back to school month. This month I've been listening to a lot of music that I used to listen to in my high school and early college years (aka the MySpace days). Don't you miss the days when you would spend minutes (or sometimes hours) trying to find the *perfect* song for your profile? I know I would spend so much time browsing the music section on MySpace trying to find obscure European bands that many of my high school peers had never heard about. I still love and listen to some of bands and singers I discovered on MySpace like The Bird and the Bee,  Feist, and Nouvelle Vague. This month's playlist is inspired by MySpace and the music discoveries I made during those years.

August 2014 Playlist

August Playlist
It's time for yet another playlist! This month's playlist doesn't really have a theme like my past ones. I just grouped some new releases and threw them all in one kick ass playlist. There's a little bit of everything in playlist! There's some dance music, some experimental stuff, and even some more mellow songs. If you're looking to some new music then this is certainly the playlist for you! If you've never heard of anyone in this playlist just take a listen, you never know you might find someone that you really enjoy.

July 2014 Playlist

The Outside Lands music festival is in exactly two weeks! I can't believe that in two weeks I'll be back in San Francisco doing the whole festival thing once again. To commemorate such an exciting event I decided to do the same thing as last year and feature some artists and bands that I'm excited to see at Outside Lands in the July playlist. In this playlist I included one of my all-time favorite bands, some artists I've loved since high school, and then some newer additions to my music library. This is also the first Outside Lands related blog post, I promise there will be a lot more to come!

June 2014 Playlist

June 2014 Playlist
Summer is now here and despite the fact that it's my least favorite season, I still want to make the most of it. I got the idea for this playlist from seeing the San Diego bay whenever I drive up to the train station to either go up to see my boyfriend or pick him up. I may not like the beach too much but the bay is another thing. There's something about seeing these tall buildings right next to the water that I just really love. To me summer is fun, carefree, and chill so I made a playlist that would reflect exactly that.

May 2014 Playlist

may 2014 playlist
There's so much more to Canadian music than Justin Bieber and Drake. This month's playlist is inspired by our neighbor's up north because why not? Canada is an amazing country! I visited Vancouver in 2010 and instantly fell in love with the city. My trip to Vancouver still sits very high on the list of cool cities that I've traveled to. And if I could live anywhere else in North America I would choose to live in Vancouver, that's how much I loved that city. So here's a playlist filled with the best that Canada has to offer.

April 2014 Playlist

In April one band kept me dancing all month long (although I'm one of the stiffest dancers in the world) and that band was Chromeo! I was introduced to Chromeo back when I was in high school and they've been one of my favorite electrofunk acts for years. Although I didn't go to Coachella I still found myself watching certain bands on the webcast and one of the bands I couldn't miss was Chromeo. It's safe to say they were one of the best acts at Coachella and thanks to their great performance now I'm impatiently waiting to see them again at Outside Lands this August.

March 2014 Playlist

I can't believe that it's been officially a year since I started making these playlists! It is truly amazing how fast time has gone by since I started blogging. Out of all the blog posts I write I have to say these are some of my favorite posts to work on. I really enjoy the process of coming up a theme and choosing each song for the playlists. This month's playlist is full with amazing and surprising covers. I really enjoy hearing a band or musician's take on another artist's song. If you're interested in listening to the covers then just continue reading.

February 2014 Playlist

February has a reputation of being the month of love because of good ol' Valentine's Day. Although Valentine's Day has come and gone that doesn't mean that you can't continue to celebrate love. What inspired me to create this playlist was the new Metronomy song cleverly titled Love Letters. Look at me being cliché and making a playlist about love... It almost makes me want to puke because I am not cutesy at all, but I do happen to enjoy these songs quite a bit. Even non-cutesy girls give into a good love song every now and then.

January 2014 Playlist

If you happen to be living under a rock then let me inform you that the French house duo and music geniuses, Daft Punk, were the big winners of the 2014 Grammys taking such honors as Record and Album of the Year. As a huge fan of them, I was very happy to see the academy finally honor a band that has been making innovative music for over 20 years. To honor them I've decided to kick off 2014 with a playlist filled with songs by French artists that have an incredible passion for music which comes through in their music.

December 2013 Playlist

With only 4 days left till 2014 I've decided to go ahead and post my last playlist of 2013. I could have easily created a NYE playlist or done a top 10 albums of 2013 list, but I just felt like showcasing those songs that I listened to non-stop this year. I made sure to include a variety of songs from indie rock to electro and even some a little bit of folk rock just to show how diverse 2013 really was.

November 2013 Playlist

This month's playlist is inspired by the music I would listen to in high school. The Killers recently released their first Greatest Hits album which made me reminisce a lot about the past. Unlike many people I happened to enjoy high school. Sure there was some drama, sad times, and awkward moments but overall it was a nice experience for me. My high school years was when I was first introduced to some great bands that I love till this day like The Killers, Phoenix, and the Yeah Yeah Yeahs.

October 2013 Playlist

I've been hinting on Twitter about an all Scandinavian pop edition of my monthly playlist and it's finally here! It's no secret that Sweden produces some of the best pop music from Abba to modern day artists like Lykke Li and Icona Pop, who produced one of the biggest hits of 2013. The whole month of October I've been craving a lot of pop music specifically from the Scandinavian countries. If you're not as familiar with Scandinavian pop then this will be a perfect introduction to some new and eclectic artists.

September 2013 Playlist

It seems like 2013 has been the year of the disco/dance music revival which makes me really happy. And I'm not talking about candy raver EDM here, I'm talking about music that not only has depth but makes you want to dance like no one's watching (which is what I do). The song which inspired this month's playlist was Reflektor by Arcade Fire which if you follow me on Twitter then you know how I haven't been able to stop raving about this song because it's that good (and I tend to have a deep love for really long songs).

August 2013 Playlist

Although I love indie rock and alternative music, I still have a soft spot for pop music. I can't help it, I just love a catchy song with a great hook. Despite my love with the upbeat music genre, I have to say that I'm disappointed with the state of mainstream pop music today. I mean I can enjoy a Katy Perry song but don't even get me started on the Biebz, Lady Gaga, or "twerk queen" Miley Cyrus. I feel like artists are just letting their team of producers and songwriters dictate their career and the end product just sounds like something another pop artist released a couple months ago. I see a lack of creativity and originality in today's pop music.

This month's playlist features some of the most underrated pop acts of today. These are the singers and bands that are creating interesting pop music and writing lyrics that push the envelope. You won't be hearing "baby baby baby ohhhhhh" in these songs, instead you might hear about powerful women, open relationships, and the modern-day Renaissance girls. I also made sure to have a lot of variety in this playlist. I have artists from Norway, Denmark, Brazil, New Zealand, Chile, Ireland, England, and of course the United States.

July 2013 Playlist

Since Outside Lands is in exactly two weeks I decided to make a playlist featuring some of the bands and musicians that I can't wait to see. This will be my first time going to Outside Lands and I'm extremely excited to attend the music festival. I also can't wait to be in San Francisco since it's been around 10 years since I last went.

So in this month's playlist we have Rhye (which I've been obsessed with for the past couple of months), Vampire Weekend, San Diego's own Wavves, and last but not least we have Sir Paul McCartney opening and closing the playlist.

June 2013 Playlist

What better way to get through the week than with a new playlist? Am I right? So if you follow me on either Twitter or Tumblr you'll know that I'm a huge Sofia Coppola fan. I've been a fan of her work for a good couple of years now, so you can imagine how excited I was when The Bling Ring came out. To commemorate the release of her fifth film I've decided to turn June's playlist into a Sofia Coppola playlist!

May 2013 Playlist

Its that time of the month again- time for a new playlist! This month's uptempo playlist is inspired by the warm weather here in San Diego. It may be spring but it feels like summer here in San Diego.

The month of may included some great releases but the most talked about release by far was Daft Punk's long anticipated album, Random Access Memories which is simply perfection. In the playlist I also featured some lesser known artists like Kyndal Gehlback, Autre Ne Veut, and La Femme.

March 2013 Playlist

To kick start my spring break I've decided to share a music playlist.

Its no secret that I love music and I want to share my love with all of you with monthly Spotify playlists! There has been some great releases in the month of March like David Bowie's, Kavinsky's, and Devendra Banhart's new albums so I made sure to include a song from each album on the playlist. There are also some older tracks like Unattainable and Bonjour Jeune Fille which I still love listening to.

I really hope you enjoy the first installment of my monthly playlists!
