How To Get The London Look

Today I bring you the blog post that I've been working on with the British jewelry brand, Astley Clarke. London is one of the fashion capitals in the world and one of the cities that I was fortunate enough to travel to while I was studying abroad, so this collaboration just made a lot of sense to me. I've created two Polyvore sets inspired by some of the trends that are popular among London girls. I hope you enjoy!

London, the city that currently holds the impressive accolade ‘Style Capital of the World’ is buzzing with inspiration for a range of trends new and old, simple and daring, so it’s no wonder that girls worldwide want to get in on a piece of the action and get ‘The London Look’. But what exactly does the look of the British lady consist of? Sophisticated luxury jewellers Astley Clarke give us the run down.

Skinny Jeans

Diamonds may be a girl’s best friend, but who says she can’t have more than one? Skinny jeans are a timeless classic for all seasons and a wardrobe must have. There are so many colours and designs to choose from, all expressing a different individual’s personality, which is what the London look is all about. For that casual yet sophisticated look, opt for deep navy or black denim skinnies. They are flattering, ultra durable and perfect for any occasion. For a statement look, opt for a seasonal colour, such as burgundy or emerald green for Autumn/Winter and white, lemon or mint for Spring/Summer. Or step up the statement even more with some pattern, such as animal print or vertical stripes, which can be ultra flattering and look extra cool.

Blazers, Faux Fur Coats, Leather Jackets and Parkas

Kate Moss, the poster girl for Rimmel’s ‘Get The London Look’ campaign, is always seen wearing either a leather jacket or a parka coat in the day with her skinny jeans and cool t-shirts, and during the evening she likes to step up the style with a fur coat. This style is true of many London ladies, and these four coat styles have become a staple of their wardrobes throughout the seasons. 

Blazers can be a neutral colour or if worn with plain skinnies then why not go for a bold print blazer up top? Parkas are perfect no matter what the British weather throws at you, and are perfect for a casual day time look, teamed with ankle boots such as famous Doc Martins and tights. Leather jackets are the ultimate investment as they are a timeless classic that never gets old and is ultra durable. And faux fur coats are the perfect classy statement for girls looking to ramp up the style in the daytime or evening.

Band T-shirts and Blouses

London girls love their music, and so band t-shirts old and new make an appearance in all wardrobes.  Whether they are DIYed with rips and embellishments or just worn as they come, they are casual and comfy, perfect for daytime dates or evening gigs.

Another wardrobe staple of the more sophisticated London girl is the blouse. With so many styles and patterns to choose from, it’s all about expressing personality, so choose a style, colour and print that suits you, and team with just about anything, from skinny jeans to and a blazer to a skater skirt and boots or pumps.

The Jewellery 

The jewellery worn by London girls isn’t about a particular trend or style, it’s all about expressing personality. A common theme is to wear multiple bangles and bracelets on the wrist, typically colourful ones, and large chunky rings to compliment. There is also a trend of wearing long, chunky necklaces and colourful, fun earrings.
