Review | Butter London Bloody Brilliant Lip Crayon

I adore Butter London nail polishes but recently I've been adding some of their makeup products to my makeup rotation. One of the most recent releases are the Bloody Brilliant Lip Crayons which are indeed bloody brilliant if I may say so. The collection is comprised of seven different shades, all which have a glossy finish. I know what you're thinking, you hate lip products that have to be sharpened. Don't worry, I tend to dislike them as well but what if I told you that you that these are the exception? Trust me, it seems like the Bloody Brilliant Lip Crayons were made with the girl on the go in mind.

What did I tell you? These aren't your typical lip pencil that need to be sharpened. Long gone are the days of trying to find the perfect sharpener for a chubby pencil! The Bloody Brilliant Lip Crayons come complete with a mess-free built-in sharpener. The caps are sturdy and each compartment opens with force, that means it will most likely not open up when it's tossing around in your handbag.

Here are a few things I love about the Bloody Brilliant Lip Crayons. Let's start discussing the feel of these lip crayons because they're very comfortable, hydrating, and invigorating due to the minty scent. If you have dry lips, you won't have to worry about these emphasizing any cracks or dry patches. I also love that these aren't overly sticky for a glossy lip color because I really dislike when my lips just stick together. The applicator is also perfect for lining and filling in your lips since it isn't as thick as other "chubby" sticks out on the market. And finally I adore the easy and travel-friendly packaging.

While I do really enjoy the Bloody Brilliant Lip Crayons there are a few things that I dislike about the product. I find that some of the colors are a bit on the sheer side so they change color once you apply them on the lips. The color indicator on the end of the lip crayon is also not true to actual color in some cases, which can cause you to buy the wrong shade on accident. The lip crayons also don't have the best wear and the feather a little outside of the lip line since they are glossy and moisturizing. The darker shades will leave a stain but the lighter shades will require touch ups throughout the day.

Overall I enjoy the product but I do have some shades that I love and some that I wouldn't necessarily recommend.

Butter London Bloody Brilliant Lip Crayon in Tea with the Queen, $20
This is a light peachy nude shade which looks absolutely lovely on fair to light skin tones. I'm normally not a fan of light nude shades since they do have the tendency to wash me out, but thankfully this doesn't do that. Tea with the Queen will pair very nicely with a smokey eye or warm eyeshadows. This is one of my favorite shades in the collection and it's a must-have if you have fair or light skin. If you have tan to deep skin I would skip this nude since it's very light. As you can imagine, Tea with the Queen does not leave a stain behind so you'll have to be reapplying it throughout the day.

Butter London Bloody Brilliant Lip Crayon in Teddy Boy, $20
I originally thought that Teddy Boy was going to be a rose with a brown undertone, much like the lip colors that have become quite popular thanks to Kylie Jenner but it's clearly not. This is a case when the color on the lip bullet and indicator is a bit misleading because the Teddy Boy looks more like a berry shade on the lips. Regardless of the misleading color situation, this is a lovely opaque berry shade. Teddy Boy does not leave a very visible stain behind so you will have to reapply throughout the day.
Butter London Bloody Brilliant Lip Crayon in Trout Pout, $20
Once again the color doesn't match what on the lips. Trout Pout is described as a light coral and you can see that both on the packaging and lip bullet, but on my lips it looks like a soft pink shade. I can definitely see a hint of warmth in this lip color but it's definitely not a coral as described. Once again, despite the misleading color I really do love this shade. This is a very nice wearable pink that will flatter a lot of different skin tones. Trout Pout left a orange stain behind after the gloss completely wore off.

Butter London Bloody Brilliant Lip Crayon in Disco Biscuit, $20
This is by far my least favorite color in the collection due to the bright cool tones. Disco Biscuit is an intense bubblegum pink with little bit of purple in it. I'm normally not a fan of these colors and the other reason why I disliked this color is because it has a milky look to it which really turned me off. Disco Biscuit left behind a slight rose shade which looks much better than the glossy color. I would advise you to skip this shade all together since Primrose Hill Picnic is a much nicer cool toned pink.

Butter London Bloody Brilliant Lip Crayon in Toff, $20
If you like wine colored lip products then Toff is for you! Once again this shade is very misleading because both the bullet and color indicator look much more brown (for reference look at the first picture, it's the first pencil on the right). Regardless of that issue (again, I know), Toff is a beautiful color that will look good with any skin tone and it wore the best. This shade also left behind a very nice stain which means that it will require less touch ups. This is by far my favorite shade in the Bloody Brilliant collection.

Butter London Bloody Brilliant Lip Crayon in Primrose Hill Picnic, $20
Primrose Hill Picnic is an intense and opaque fuschia that lasts so well on the lips. If you want a cool toned pink, get this instead of Disco Biscuit! This color applied like a dream and wore beautifully throughout the day. I also think this shade would look amazing on a large variety of skin tones, particularly deeper skin tones. After the gloss wore off I was left with a nice reddish stain with a bit of sparkle (which is not visible when you swatch the shade). This is another very strong contender in the Bloody Brilliant Lip Crayon rage.

Butter London Bloody Brilliant Lip Crayon in Ruby Murray, $20
Now you would think that Ruby Murray would be a shade that I would be all over because it's a deep red, but that's exactly why I dislike this shade. If I'm going to wear a deep shade I want it to be completely opaque and matte. I don't want to worry about this shade feathering outside my lip line or wearing off weird. If you want a deeper color, go for an actual lipstick since this is a bit on the sheer side. Ruby Murray did leave a slight wine colored stain behind which resembles Toff.
