Neiman Marcus The Spring 2014 Trends

On Wednesday morning I was invited to attend the blogger breakfast at Neiman Marcus in Fashion Valley. During the breakfast style advisor, Alex Yáñez, walked us through 10 trends that we'll be seeing this spring such as artistic prints, the pink lip, and summer booties. We saw some amazing pieces by some of the fashion powerhouses such as Stella McCartney, Givenchy, and Valentino.

Breakfast consisted of a glass of pink champagne and poached eggs with polenta and pesto.

TREND: ARTISTIC PRINTS- By far one of my favorite trends because I love bright and fun patterns. The first dress is a lovely makeup themed shift dress by Stella McCartney and being a beauty blogger I was just drooling over it. We were also shown more subdue animal prints and romantic nature prints as seen in the Akris printed silk dress.
TREND: PINKS & THE PINK LIP- There was numerous clothing and accessories with different shades of pink from bright fuschia to a tropical coral. For the lips it's all about a bright pink lip, but if you want a more toned down look then stick to a sheer pink gloss.
TREND: SHORT STORIES- Short shorts and cropped tops are going to be sticking around this spring. We saw different variations of a short from a casual denim short short (which screams SoCal), to a more edgy leather short paired with a leather top with laser cutouts. As for crop tops, it seems like we'll be seeing more fitted styles paired with a-line skirts.
Here's Alex Yáñez, style advisor for Neiman Marcus. He walked us through all the 10 spring trends and told us about all the items on the models.
TREND: SHIRT CHIC- Shirt chic is something that is right up my alley. It's a feminine twist on your classic button up shirt. Button up shirts are the perfect piece for me because you can easily wear it as an androgynous piece or make it more feminine by pairing it with a skirt or feminine accessories.
TREND: WHITE WITH BLACK- Black & white will always be in style, it was a very strong trend this past fall/winter and it's going to be sticking around in spring. The way to carry this trend in the spring is by wearing flirty skirts, blouses, and crop tops. One of my favorite looks from the morning was this high waisted white skirt and a black bra inspired top with the white jacket.
Although this event was specifically for bloggers, stylists, and PR in San Diego you can take part in it too! There is an upcoming event here on Tuesday, February 18 called Project Beauty where you'll get to see all the same presentation. It costs $25 to make the reservation and you'll get a $25 NM gift card to use on your beauty purchases the day of the event. If you spend $125 on beauty items you'll get the same gift bag that the bloggers got. There's going to be two receptions that you can attend: one at 10:30am and the other at 3:30pm. For more information please call (619) 642-4416. If you live in another city check the Neiman Marcus website for the events in your area.
