Foundations for Oily Skin

I get a lot of questions regarding foundations for oily skin since I've been very outspoken about having extremely oily skin. Finding a foundation for your skin type is pretty easy nowadays because there are so many brands (both in the drugstore and high-end) trying to cater to everyone's needs. Sometimes foundations will list the ideal skin type such as the Revlon ColorStay foundation, but other times you have to look for key words. When shopping for a foundation for your oily skin look out for the following words: matte, powder, or shine control. In today's blog post I'm going to go through a few of my foundations intended of us oily skin girls out there.

Disclaimer: These foundations will most likely not work for dry skin. Most foundations for oily skin have a dry finish that works for controlling the excess amount of oil, but on dry skin this will cause the foundation to cling onto dry patches.

Rimmel Stay Matte Liquid Mousse Foundation, $4.99
The Rimmel Stay Matte foundation is a thick and high coverage foundation. It is described as a lightweight and natural foundation but I definitely have to disagree with Rimmel on this one. I don't think high coverage foundations are natural looking at all, but this is ideal for those of you who have an oily/acne prone skin. The coverage is amazing! Whenever I use this foundation I don't even have to worry about putting concealer afterwards because it can cover up any pesky pimple or dark spot. The Rimmel Stay Matte foundation is a long lasting, blendable, and multi-purpose product. It's overall a big hit for me!

Rimmel BB Cream Matte 9-in-1 Skin Perfecting Super Makeup, $6.99
If you're a fan of BB creams but find that they leave your face very shiny then this is a great option for you. This is the lighter version of the Stay Matte foundation in my opinion. I was very surprised at how much coverage this BB cream has because I was so used to a very sheer BB cream coverage. It won't cover up everything but it will take care of a red complexion and some pimples. I find that this lasts very well on my face, even on workdays I can see the majority of the foundation on my face by the end of the day. Also unlike other BB creams that I've tried this one didn't oxidize and leave my face looking orange.

BareMinerals Matte Foundation, $27
If you're a fan of mineral foundation then I will highly recommend you check out the bareMinerals Matte foundation. This is essentially the same thing as their traditional formula, except it has a matte finish. Mineral foundation is natural looking, lightweight, long lasting, and can also be used as concealer. I personally enjoy that I get to control the amount of coverage I want with this foundation, I can use a light hand for a more natural look or layer the foundation for a high coverage look. This is just a very versatile product that I will keep in my beauty arsenal for years and years.

L'Oréal Magic Nude Liquid Powder, $12.99
The L'Oréal Magic Nude Liquid Powder foundation is supposed to be the drugstore version of the Giorgio Armani Maestro Fusion Makeup. The foundation is ultra liquidy and provides light-medium coverage. It can cover redness but it won't cover much else. The reason why I enjoy this foundation is because it makes my skin look like my skin. It has a very natural powder finish, so it's not completely matte. If you're looking for something that is truly lightweight and natural as possible, then this one is a fantastic option. I know Maybelline recently came out with the Dream Wonder Fluid-Touch Foundation but it should essentially be the same thing since Maybelline is owned by L'Oréal.

Neutrogena Shine Control Makeup, $13.99*
I received this last year to review and I have to say that this is my least favorite of the bunch. I find that it's heavy and a bit difficult to blend out. Another thing that makes me dislike the Neutrogena Shine Control Foundation is the feel, it honestly feels extremely abrasive like sand. I can't see any exfoliating particles but when you apply it on your face you can definitely feel it. The finish of this foundation is great, I find that it's long lasting, and provides a good amount of coverage but I don't want to apply a foundation that feels abrasive on my skin.

I hope you enjoyed this little foundations for oily skin roundup. I think us with oily skin can get away with using a foundation for normal/dry skin as long as you powder your face well.
