MAC Star Trek Comic Con Experience

MAC Star Trek Comic Con Experience
Last Friday I was invited by MAC to experience their Star Trek event outside of San Diego Comic Con and let me tell you, it was out of this world! The 4-day event was free to the public and consisted of four separate experiences inspired by four women in the Star Trek universe. There was an area where you could check out the whole collection and swatch your heart away, two areas where you could get a makeover, and there was also an area that resembled the Enterprise where you could purchase the collection weeks before it officially launches. Not only was I able to get my hands on a few things but I also got a intergalactic makeover by local MAC MUA Brad Crespo.

First of all, I have to give major props to my mom for being my photographer that day. I've mentioned before on the blog that she honestly has no clue about how to take pictures, and the pictures actually came out really good! I appreciate that she's willing to learn in order to help me out with all my blog and YouTube stuff. Not going to lie, my mom is the best.

As for the makeup, I gave Brad full permission to do whatever he wanted. He gave me gold glittery eyebrows, warm eyeshadow, tons of sheen on my cheeks, and even an icy green lip. I also got to wear false lashes for the first time in months and it was so much fun. The end result gave me intergalactic cyber warrior vibes and I loved it. It's such a different look from my normal minimal makeup routine, so I really enjoyed stepping out of my comfort zone and trying out something a little crazy. At the end of the day, makeup is supposed to be fun and you can wash it off at the end of the night. It was so enjoyable getting to spend some time with another fellow makeup lover and Brad really knows how to make a woman feel her best. He even added a touch of gloss on my mom for a subtle glittery lip and she loved it so much that she had to purchase the lipglass that he used.

Now here's my little interview with the lovely Brad who's a MAC makeup artist here in San Diego.

Laura Neuzeth: What inspired the MAC and Star Trek collaboration?
Brad CrespoMAC and Star Trek wanted to celebrate the 50th Anniversary. The collection was inspired by 4 women: Uhura (the first African American woman on a major TV series), the Orions (alien species), 7 of 9 (cyborg voyager), and Deanna Troi (strong glamorous commander). They are glamorous characters in the Star Trek universe. MAC's motto is "All ages. All races. All sexes" and now we can add "All Species and 30 galaxies."

LN: How can you take the intergalactic trends and adapt them to everyday life?
BC: The Trip the Light Fantastic Powder are sheer and give you a glow from within, it's also a two in one product. You can use them as a blush and highlight. Glitter also nevers go out of style, it's still a very popular trend on the runway. Everything in the collection is for everyone and can be worn in a subtle way.

LN: What Star Trek female character most inspires you?
BC: This is hard but I'd have to say Uhura. Zoe Saldana is fierce and Nichelle Nichols broke so many barriers in the 1960's. Did you know that she inspired Whoopi Goldberg? Whoopi was a child when she saw Nichelle on TV and knew that she could aspire to become an actress. I also love how Uhura can go from the books to warp speed. Plus Uhura is so iconic from the 60's until now, she's all about being glamorous and smart.

LN: What's your favorite item from the collection?
BC: The Trip the Light Fantastic Powder. The powders lend themselves to the diffused and non-touring trend that we've been seeing. Not only can you use the powders to highlight, but you can also apply a veil of color to the cheek by using something like the MAC 184 Brush. The powders are very wearable and reflect the light softly. Everyone looks good with a glow.

This is the display that you'll be seeing when the MAC Star Trek launches in store on September 1st in the United States and Canada. The collection will also be launching in Europe on September but unfortunately you won't be getting the Trip the Light Fantastic Powders or the Pressed Pigment Eye Shadows, both of those products are North American exclusives.
Here's my review and preview of the MAC Star Trek collection for those of you who haven't watched it.

Who's your favorite Star Trek character? Let me know in the comments below! I personally love me some Spock.
